The Rock Garden, also referred to as Barbotey Rock Garden, along with Chunu Summer Falls and Ganga Maya Park, are newer tourist destinations nestled in the picturesque town of Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. Design to revive tourism after the political unrest of the 1980s,  this attraction aims to draw visitors back to the area. Another notable Rock Garden, Sir John Anderson Rock Garden, is located within Lloyd’s Botanical Garden.

Situated approximately 10 km (6.2 miles) From Darjeeling, the garden can be accessed by turning right from Hill Curt Road before reaching Ghoom. The road descends steeply into the valley, Featuring sharp turns that will make your heart pound with fear at every step. Although you will see the extraordinary natural beauty of the mountains along the entire road. The deep gorge on one side of the road and the tea gardens on the other side will be scary on one side and will give you joy on the other. With the bonus, you will be able to see Kanchenjungha most of the time.

Darjeeling Rock Garden Waterfall

You will see a very beautiful natural waterfall here. A park has been created by cutting a mountain around it. Here you will see very beautiful, unknown mountain flowers and trees. Here you will see many small craves. Also, if you get tired while walking, there is a place to sit a little far away. If you love taking photos, then this place is for you, you can take a lot of photos here.

This was constructed by the Gorkha Hill Council Tourism Department and inaugurated by GNLF leader Subhash Ghising. As tourism flourishes, numerous tea shops and snack stalls have emerged, catering to the influx of visitors.

2. Ganga Maya Park:

Ganga Maya Park

Ganga Maiya Park life approximately 3 km (1.9 miles) from the Rock Garden. Here you will see many known and unknown beautiful flower plants. The park is made up of many places for you to sit here. Since most people do not come here, the place is very quiet, and silent. There is no human noise. There is only the call of birds and the sound of water of the mountain waterfall which will always captivate you. A small mountain stream has gone throughout the entire park.

 The center of attraction is a small lake here. This lake has good boating facilities. Of course, you can do boating if you want and it’s very much recommended. You will see a mountain waterfall falls in this lake. It will be a wonderful feeling when you come here. Additionally, Gorkha folk dances are performed here to delight tourists.

Distance from Darjeeling town- 12 km

Boating fees – 50 INR for 15 minutes

If you book a cab for the whole day then you can visit three points of Darjeeling and these 2 points, which is more beneficial to you. Darjeeling 3 points are Tiger Hill, Batasia Loop, and Ghoom Monastery. Tiger Hill is famous for its spectacular sunrise view. So you can get up at 3.30 am. After returning from Tiger Hill you can visit Batasia loop which gives you a beautiful panoramic view of Darjeeling city with a snow-capped mountain view and Ghoom monastery. Your Darjeeling 3-point visit ends at 9.00 am. Then you can be relaxed sometimes in your hotel. After having launch you can leave for Darjeeling at two points: Rock Garden and Ganga Maya Park.

How to reach in Darjeeling?

By Air:-

Nearest airport-Bagdogra airport

Though it is a domestic airport if you come from any city of India you can direct or indirect flight from there to Bagdogra. If you come from a European country or an American country, the nearest Airport is in Kolkata which is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Then you can catch a domestic flight from Kolkata to Siliguri which is Bagdogra Airport. After reaching Bagdogra Airport you can book a cab which Can reach your destination i.e.,  Darjeeling. The distance from the airport to Darjeeling is approximately 85 km, and the time duration should be 2 to 2.5 hours.

By Train;-

If you’re going from Kolkata to Siliguri (NJP)  then you can get so many options from Sealdah Howrah station. You can book any train according to your schedule. Ticket prices are 350 INR to 2500 INR according to various classes.

Now It’s time to go to Darjeeling.You can book a cab from Siliguri Station or NJP station To Darjeeling. The time duration should be 2 hours 30 minutes. 

Cab Pricing- If you go to the sharechat then it costs approximately 250 INR to 350 INR per head.

 If you book a reserved cab then it costs approximately 3000 INR to 4000 INR. 

If you are a solo and budget traveler, you can book a seat of Govt. bus, which costs approximately 110 INR.

Last but not least there is another great option to reach Darjeeling from NJP which is the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway also known as Toy Train. If you have enough time to explore then you can get a ride on Toy Train.

Toy Train ticket prices vary from 650 INR to 1600 INR based on various classes.

Apart from that many kinds of flowers can be seen in the mountains during this time.
